An easy Indian Snacks Recipe : Poha

Poha is very light food to eat in morning breakfast & with evening tea. It don't require so many things to prepare. Its a yummy, simple and common snack usually made in central India. It's a specialty from Madhya Pradesh, India. Try this simple recipe as a snacks for your kids...

Ingredients:
  1. 2 cups thick poha
  2. 1 thai chili (minced)
  3. 1/2 cup chopped carrot
  4. 1/2 cup chopped potato
  5. 1/4 cup sweet green peas
  6. 1/2 cup chopped onion
  7. 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  8. 1 tsp turmeric
  9. 1 lime
  10. 2 tbsp oil
  11. 1 tsp sugar and salt to taste

Method:

1. Wash you poha with cold water and drain all the water. Set it aside.

2. Now heat oil in a pan and throw in the mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds start
popping add chopped potatoes. Since potatoes take a little longer to cook we are adding
   them first.

3. Let it cook for about 5 minutes and then throw in the carrots and peas. Now the
thing with vegetable poha is that you can add as many veggies as you want so go
ahead and have fun with it. I had carrots and peas so I used that.

4. Cook them again for another 4-5 minutes and then add chopped onion.

5. Stirring occasionally let all the vegetables cook well. When you think vegetable
are cooked according to you liking add sugar, salt and turmeric.

6. Mix everything together and then add the final ingredient that is poha that you
   had washed and set aside.

7. Turn heat to very low and gently mix all the ingredients, poha is very soft so you
don't want it to get mushy. If you think its a little dry for you as it sometimes
happens, just sprinkle a little water on it and mix everything.

8. Turn of the heat and cover your pan with a lid and let it sit for a few minutes.

9.Serve it with a sprinkle of lime juice and if you want an extra kick to it just
add a little sev or bhujia to it that you can find at any Indian market.
